Kaufland increases fees on the marketplace

The sale of products on the Kaufland Global Marketplace is becoming more expensive in some categories: As early as April 30, fees in selected categories are rising, as the online marketplace has now announced to its retail partners.

The adjustments include both increases and reductions, most of which are in the range of plus or minus one percent. “The vast majority of commissions have remained the same,” explains a company spokesperson on request. In one category, however, there is a noticeable increase.

Significantly higher fees for small household appliances

According to the updated fee schedule, the commission is increasing in the categories Garden, Mattresses, Kitchen & Household, Clothing, Bags & Accessories and Shoes. The fees rise from 13 to 14 percent of the purchase price. Kaufland has announced a reduction in commissions in the pet supplies, camping items, fitness products and stand-up paddle boards categories. The sales fee is reduced from 15 to 14 percent.

There is a comparatively massive increase of 6 percent in the household electronics (small appliances) sector: Instead of the previous 7 percent, 13 percent will be due from the end of April. With a price increase in this category, the company is at least not alone on the market: The online marketplace Otto had also recently made adjustments to household electronics and raised the commission from 8 to 15 percent. “In this category, we have adapted to market levels,” explained Robert Schlichter, Vice President Otto Market, recently interviewed.

The company did not explain in detail why the change took place at Kaufland. But in general, in terms of the range and services offered to retailers, “we are very positively positioned compared to the market, both with our services and the level of commissions,” says Kaufland.

Lower commissions on the Polish marketplace

The ongoing operation of the platform and services, as well as some projects that were recently announced, also require the appropriate funding. “However, in order to continue to work in a resource-efficient manner and to be able to provide our retailers with a future-oriented and competitive platform for sustainable, scalable growth, there has recently been an adjustment of commissions for sales in a few categories on the Kaufland marketplaces,” explains the company spokesperson about the reasons for the commission increases.

For example, the company announced back in February that it would introduce a new international fulfillment service. And just last week, Kaufland announced that it was expanding its range of marketplaces to Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to include Austria and Poland. It is planned to go live in late summer. Retailers then have the opportunity to sell in five countries with Kaufland Global Marketplace. A look at the fee table also shows that the commissions for Kaufland.de, Kaufland.sk,Kaufland.cz and the new platform Kaufland.at move on the same level. For the Polish marketplace, however, fees are cheaper in almost all categories.
