Amazon is planning comprehensive changes to its fee structure for 2025, affecting sellers who use the Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) fulfillment service. These adjustments aim to increase efficiency and optimize inventory management.
Sales fee adjustments
From February 2025, the minimum sales fee for heavy, non-sortable FBA products will be reduced from the previous 25 euros to 20 euros. This measure is intended to make selling such items more attractive and to suit retailers.
Increased storage fees in certain categories
Monthly storage fees for standard-size items will be increased in certain categories from January to September. Clothing, glasses, shoes and bags are particularly affected. For all other standard-size items, the fees remain unchanged during this period. However, during the Christmas period from October to December, storage fees increase in all product categories.
Higher costs for low-inventory items
Low-inventory products sold via pan-European shipping will result in higher costs in the future. This change is intended to encourage retailers to manage their inventory more efficiently and avoid bottlenecks.
Surcharges for longer storage periods
From February 2025, the surcharge for warehouse use will be increased in all warehouse categories. For standard-size items, this surcharge applies if inventory utilization exceeds 44 weeks; for oversized goods, the threshold is 36 weeks. In addition, old stocks that are stored between 271 and 365 days are subject to higher surcharges. An additional surcharge applies to products that remain in stock between 241 and 271 days. Categories such as clothing, shoes, bags or jewelry are excluded from these surcharges.
New processing fee for frequently returned products
For products that are returned frequently, Amazon will introduce a new processing fee from February 1, 2025. This is intended to cover the costs associated with returns and motivate retailers to improve the quality of their products and descriptions in order to minimize returns.
Incentives for product range expansions
To encourage retailers to expand their product range and offer new items, Amazon plans to offer larger sales fee discounts for those who expand their offerings accordingly. This initiative is intended to increase diversity on the marketplace and offer customers a wider range of products.
These planned changes underscore Amazon's efforts to increase efficiency and profitability for both the platform and sellers. Retailers are therefore required to adjust their business strategies and inventories accordingly in order to meet the new requirements and continue to operate successfully on the marketplace.
